Geraldine ‘Gerry’ Laird, a resident of Little Falls, peacefully joined her Lord Wednesday, May 2, 2012, from Harmony House in Little Falls, where she had been cared for by a loving and caring staff. Their devotion to her well being gave her peace, dignity and quality of life.
Geraldine was born to the late Edgar and Elizabeth Johnson as an only child in Montreal, Canada, Aug. 25, 1928. She grew up in Montreal where she attended school. After graduating from high school, Geraldine worked as a bank teller. In her early 20s she met and fell in love with James Laird and was united in marriage to him in 1950. They lived in many places. In 1963, they settled in Little Falls. Geraldine was very active in her children’s lives and was a very thoughtful and loving mother. She also participated in dog shows with her champion Gordon Setter Brandof Aberfoyle. Geraldine found solace at the Episcopal Church of Our Savior in which she joined in 1966. She was employed at St. Gabriel’s Hospital for many years. Geraldine has many interests in her life. She was an avid book reader and she loved the ballet, theater and operas. She was active in the community theatre and belonged to the Friends of the Library. However, her greatest passion was for animals, especially her cats.
Geraldine is survived by children, James Laird of West St. Paul and Becky (Brad) Stephens of St. Paul; grandchildren, Zachary Laird and Carissa Stephens.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Elizabeth Johnson and her husband, James Laird.
Geraldine’s wishes were to be cremated followed by a private memorial service held at a later date.
