An 11-run first inning highlighted by back-to-back home runs from senior Britian Conley and junior Jamie Jenks fueled a 13-4 win for the Little Falls softball team over Swanville, Wednesday.

After sophomore Alea Cekalla worked a scoreless top of the first inning, the Flyers offense sent 15 batters to the plate in the bottom of the first, smacking seven hits and drawing a pair of walks.

In addition to Conley’s grand slam and Jenks’ solo shot, seniors Makayla Jorgensen and Alayna Kabanuk and Cekalla drove in runs during the inning, with Conley, Jenks and Jorgensen each scoring twice.

“We came out swinging today,” Little Falls head coach Ron Hinnenkamp said. “The girls were ready to hit.”

The Bulldogs settled in after that, outscoring the Flyers 4-2 the rest of the way.

Cekalla earned the complete-game win for Little Falls, striking out 10 without allowing an earned run. She ended five of the seven innings with strikeouts.

Juniors Abbey Schultz and Marissa Evans each had a pair of hits for the Bulldogs, with Schultz scoring twice.

Little Falls junior Chantelle Anderson dives back into second base as Swanville senior Courtney Sieben applies a tag, Wednesday.

Sophomore Ashley Maciej added a double.

“Our girls started out with a real bad case of the jitters,” Swanville head coach Tom Bzdok said. “After we got the first inning out of our system, we played solid defense and hit the ball well for the rest of the game.”

Little Falls will finish a suspended game with Foley while Swanville will travel to Browerville, Thursday.
