A pair of dramatic finishes led to a split of Thursday’s doubleheader for the Pierz softball team at home against Kimball Area.

In the opener, Pierz entered the bottom of the seventh inning trailing 2-0, only to come up with three runs on a walk-off homer by junior Megan Boser to pull out a 3-2 win.

The Pioneers carried that momentum into the second game, building a 9-2 lead.

But the Cubs fought their way back into it, pulling within 11-9 after the sixth and scoring three runs in its final at-bat to earn a 12-11 victory and the split.

Junior Miranda Woitalla had three hits, junior Michaela Rocheleau doubled twice and junior Sara Schlegel recorded eight put outs and three assists behind the plate in the opener.

Boser, Rocheleau and sophomore Lynn Funk each had two hits and combined to draw six walks in the finale.

Pierz plays at Albany, Friday.
