Baseball: Weiss homers, drives in four as Pierz splits pair with Kimball

Pierz dug out of an early 4-0 hole to win the opening game of a doubleheader at Kimball Area, Thursday, but couldn’t do it again in the finale, settling for a split.

Junior Cody Weiss homered and drove in four runs in the Pioneers’ 7-5 win in the first game and pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the fifth inning.

Senior Trent Davis and juniors Ben Boser and Cody Nordmann each contributed two hits, with Davis doubling and driving in two runs.

Pierz rallied from 4-0 down again in the second game to go ahead 6-4, but Kimball came back to top the Pioneers 9-6.

Junior Brad Meyer and Weiss each had a pair of hits and scored for Pierz.

Junior Jon Fuhrman and Nordmann each added a hit and a run.
