Softball: Volkers’ walk-off triple lifts Holdingford over Eden Valley-Watkins

After each team struck for two runs in the first inning, a pitchers’ duel developed between Eden Valley-Watkins and Holdingford, Monday.
Finally, with the score still knotted at 2-2, host Holdingford was able to break through in the bottom of the seventh, winning the game 3-2 when junior Jena Volkers tripled home sophomore Sam Maciej.
The Huskers got on the board in the first inning on run-scoring singles by juniors Ashley Breth and Haley Huls.
Junior Alyssa Ohman scattered six hits over seven innings and struck out eight without issuing a walk to earn the win.
Volkers finished the game 3-for-3 and Ohman reached base three times.
Holdingford plays a doubleheader at Kimball Area, Thursday.
