DFL delegates choose Rick Nolan as candidate for Congress

The Democratic Farmer Labor (DFL) convention for Congressional District 8 was held in Duluth at Spirit Mountain over the weekend of May 5 – 6. Delegates attending from Morrison County included Roman Witucki, Carol Valaseno, Martin Witucki, Tony Kula, Cathy Adamek and alternate Tina Larsen. Don Bye was reelected as Congressional District 8 chairman.

Guest speakers included former congressman Jim Oberstar, Sen. Al Franken and Sen. Amy Klobauchar. Minnesota DFL Chairman Ken Martin addressed the crowd. He reminded the group of what Hubert H. Humphrey said, “The moral test of a government is how it treats children, its disabled, sick and its poor. That is why we are all here today; to fight for the rights of those people. Rick Nolan was elected as the DFL candidate for Congress; he was elected on the first ballot. Rick has previously served in Congress and will take that seniority with him when he is elected to serve again.”

Nolan, a retired teacher, once taught in Royalton.
