Royalton jumped out to an early 3-0 lead against Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE), Friday, scoring on a two-run double by senior Jeremy Grittner and when sophomore Cade Stang came around after a leadoff walk.
But the visiting Thunder tied the score with three unearned runs in the fifth inning, then took a 4-3 lead in the eighth.
The Royals evened the score back up on a base hit by freshman Brady Moulzolf to plate senior Brandon Lattimer, but LPGE tallied three more runs in the 11th to pull out the lengthy 7-4 win.
Moulzolf finished 3-for-5 and Stang went 2-for-4 with two runs.
“Once again we took a good team deep into a game and couldn’t finish them off,” Royalton head coach Rusty Gwost said. “Real frustrating night for our team, but there were still positives to build on.”
