Softball: Barthel, Maciej combine for seven hits as Swanville defeats Upsala

Swanville built a 5-2 lead early, then put the game away with three runs in its final three at-bats to defeat Upsala 14-4, Monday.

Junior Tiffany Barthel had four hits and scored three runs and senior Vickie Maciej contributed three hits and three runs to lead Swanville.

Senior Molly Jordan and junior Marissa Evans added two hits apiece and combined to score sven runs, with senior Courtney Sieben and junior Abbey Schultz also picking up two hits.

Junior Kaelin Smieja went 4-for-4 with a double and triple to lead Upsala.

Sophomore Katie Ripplinger added three hits and sophomore Alissa Zehrer had two.

Senior Lexi Loven earned a complete-game win for the Bulldogs.

“(Loven) did a wonderful job of throwing strikes and it made a big difference in the score,” Swanville head coach Tom Bzdok said.
