Monson tosses three-hitter as Buckman shuts out St. Wendel in Victory League

Jeremy Monson threw a three-hit shutout to pitch Buckman past St. Wendel 6-0 in Victory League (VL) baseball action, May 13.
Corey Egan homered and Nate Neeser and Mark Kahl each had two hits and scored to provide the Billygoats with the offense Monson needed. In other action May 12 – 13:
Sobieski 13, Upsala 5
The Sobieski offense piled up 13 runs on 17 hits to avenge an extra-inning loss from six days prior in a 13-5 victory at Upsala.
Ben Hanowski and Isaac Smieja each homered and teamed up for six RBIs for Sobieski, which had eight players put together multi-hit games.
Joey Hanowski scored three runs and Riley Hirsch knocked in three.
Ben Burggraff, Brady Burggraff and Matt Swanson each had two hits for the Blue Jays, with Burggraff homering.
Sobieski 8, Nisswa 6
After defeating Upsala the day before, Sobieski topped Nisswa 8-6 in a rematch of last season’s Region 8C championship.
Jon Czech went 3-for-5 and scored a run and Ben Hanowski went 2-for-4 with two runs for the Skis.
Aaron Jenkins and Jeremiah Piepkorn homered for the Lightning.
Lastrup 6, St. Stephen 4
Lastrup edged St. Stephen 6-4 in a match-up of two of the final three unbeaten teams in the VL.
Dave Woitalla collected three hits and drove in two runs for Lastrup, while Jason Sadlovsky helped his own cause with a solo homer while picking up the win.
Neil Thiesen singled and drew three walks for St. Stephen.
Freeport 6, Royalton 1
Ryan Tschida went 3-for-3 and drove in half of Freeport’s runs as the Black Sox won 6-1 at Royalton.
Eric Freeman and Chad Hess each added doubles for Freeport.
Craig Meyer earned the complete-game win, fanning eight.
Zach Lanners, Aaron Trutwin and Emil Trutwin collected the Riverdogs’ hits.
Freeport 3, Randall 1
Freeport earned its second win of the weekend with a narrow 3-1 win over Randall.
Peter Burg tossed a four-hitter to earn the win for the Black Sox, striking out 10.
Eric Thilquist went 2-for-3 and scored Randall’s lone run.
Holdingford 8, Harding 7
Down to its final out in the bottom of the ninth, Holdingford had four consecutive batters reach base to stun Harding 8-7.
Jeremy Klein went 3-for-4 and drew a pair of walks and Derek Thielen scored twice for Holdingford.
Dan Rocheleau and Curt Caughey had two hits apiece for Harding, with Rocheleau driving in three runs.
Cuyuna Range 9, Flensburg 4
Cuyuna Range starter A.J. Hartshorn scattered 10 hits as the Miners earned a 9-4 victory at Flensburg.
Michael Hoge homered and Lance Herbst reached base five times for Cuyuna Range.
Eddie Wenzel went 3-for-5 and Russ Fellbaum went deep for Flensburg.
Avon 6, Pierz Brewers 2
Avon evened its record with a 6-2 win at the Pierz Brewers, led by a three-hit performance by Rick Hendrickson.
Troy Wunderlich struck out seven over five innings to earn the win, with Kyle Collins tossing four scoreless innings to record the save.
Greg Pohlkamp went 3-for-5 and Eric Boser doubled in both of Pierz’ runs.
Opole 8, Pierz Bulldogs 1
Opole’s Max Posch limited the Pierz Bulldogs to two hits and the Bears’ offense took care of the rest en route to an 8-1 win.
Zach Bialka went 3-for-5 with a double, while John Pilarski, David Bialka and Jim Muehlbauer also had multi-hit games for Opole.
Pilarski scored three runs and David Bialka drove in two.
Posch finished the game with 12 strikeouts.
Craig Luberts doubled and knocked in Pierz’ only run.
St. Mathias 6, Royalton 1
Josh Haberman limited Royalton to one run on six hits to lead St. Mathias to a 6-1 road win.
Blake Thiesse contributed two hits and crossed the plate twice for St. Mathias.
Paul Krebs reached base twice and scored for Royalton.
Fort Ripley 6, Upsala 1
Brett Kramer and Logan Kalis teamed up to quiet the Upsala offense, allowing Fort Ripley to remain undefeated with a 6-1 win.
Rob Veith Jr. went 4-for-5 with a double and two runs for the Rebels, while Nick Jelacie drove in two runs and scored twice.
Dustin Biniek went 2-for-3 with an RBI and two walks for the Blue Jays.
Chris Ripplinger worked three shutout innings.
Games scheduled for May 19 were Holdingford at Lastrup and Harding versus Lastrup at Pierz.
Games on Sunday, May 20, include Holdingford at Buckman; St. Stephen at Pierz Bulldogs; Nisswa at Cuyuna Range; Upsala at St. Mathias; Pierz Brewers at St. Wendel; Randall at Royalton; and Flensburg at Sobieski.
