A seventh-inning rally fell just short for Pierz as host Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE) held on for a 5-3 win in Tuesday’s regular season finale for both teams.

LPGE jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning, then picked up two more runs in the fourth to carry a 5-1 lead into the final inning.

The Pioneers brought two runners around to score and loaded the bases in the seventh, but a warning track fly ended the game and left the go-ahead run at first.

Juniors Ben Boser and Cody Weiss each had two hits for Pierz, with Weiss driving in two runs.

Senior Trent Davis and junior Cody Nordmann also picked up a hit and a run.

Pierz opens postseason play Thursday against an opponent to be determined.

Pierz  3 6 1
LPGE  5 7 3

Pierz—Ben Boser: 2-2, SB; Cody Weiss: 2-4, 2-RBI; Trent Davis: 1-3, R; Cody Nordmann: 1-3, R.
