Seniors Lindsay Monson, left, and Preston Weber were named the Pierz Athletes of the Year at the Pierz awards banquet, May 9. Both athletes were three-sport standouts, with Monson participating in volleyball, basketball and track and field, and Weber competing in football, basketball and track and field.

Little Falls Community High School (LFCHS) named Joey Hanowski, left, and Mattia Hendrickson its May Athletes of the Month. Hanowski, a senior on the baseball team, was 12-for-22 with four home runs and 15 RBIs during May at the time of the selection, raising his batting average to .528. He went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs as the Flyers clinched the Granite Ridge Conference championship against St. Cloud Cathedral, May 19. Hendrickson, a junior on the girls track and field team, earned All-Granite Ridge Conference honors in the 3,200-meter run and honorable mention honors running first on the 4x800 relay team. “Mattia has been a consistent point earner for the team all season long,” head coach Tara Schlagel said. “She has placed high in the 1,600 meter, 3,200 meter and the 4x800 relay in every meet she’s participated in. Mattia was selected as a captain because of her hard work, positive attitude and dedication to the sport.”

The Little Falls freshman baseball team finished the season with a 26-2 overall record, with its only losses coming in 9-8 and 2-1 games to St. Cloud Cathedral. On May 18, the Student Council at Little Falls Community High School (LFCHS) sponsored the sixth annual duathlon (run one mile, bike five miles, run one mile). The first place winners in each category were: female individual - Mattia Hendrickson; male individual - Tyler Claseman; overall and female team - Ulrike Schulz and Maria Hauer; male team - Cody Muncy and Nathan Kurowski and co-ed team - Michael Stumpf and Jenny Anderson. LFCHS Student Council hosts sixth duathlon

The Pierz 14U baseball team won the Big Lake 14U AA tournament, May 18 - 20. Pierz beat Osseo-Maple Lake 10-3, Big Lake 7-0, Blaine 13-3 and Minnetonka 6-4 to advance to the championship, then defeated BOLD 4-3. Pictured are front row: bat boy Reese Kapsner.
