Benita Koury is the Little Falls Chamber of Commerce Employee of the Month for June. Employed at Bon Jos on First Avenue Northeast for 4 1/2 years, she said she thoroughly enjoys her job.
Koury, who is a sales associate in the clothing store that sells trendy and stylish clothing for women of all ages, loves chatting with people, getting to know them and their clothing needs.
She also said she loves her coworkers, who are both talented and unique.
“We are all in a different age group, from teenagers to people in their 60s,” she said. “It’s so much fun. We all bring something different to the job and we all add something to the sales experience. Each one of us loves to interact with people and make new friends.”
Koury said that one of the hardest parts of her job, but one of the most gratifying, is to help someone choose an outfit for a funeral.
“We are helping someone on the worst day of their lives,” she said with tears in her eyes.
Patty Stewart, the owner of Bon Jos said, “We feel very fortunate to have Benita as part of our sales team. She is a true asset to Bon Jos and the Little Falls community.”
The Kourys moved to the Little Falls area from the Twin Cities in 2006.
“My husband, Greg, spent a lot of time online looking for homes in both Minnesota and Wisconsin just before he retired from the Air Force. He did say he didn’t want to go further north,” she said. “But, we knew what we wanted and when we saw this home north of Little Falls, we fell in love with it.”
The Kourys have found that they chose the correct place to live, even though they took a leap of faith moving to a town where they didn’t know a soul.
“Little Falls is such an open and friendly place,” Koury said. “Everyone is so nice.”
Prior to moving to Little Falls, Koury owned a painting business for six years. She did murals and decorating. Prior to that, she owned a cleaning business for 19 years.
“Greg and I love to fish and go to Crane Lake on the Canadian border as often as we can,” she said. “I also love to read, garden, paint and decorate.”
For being honored as the Employee of the Month, Koury received gift certificates from Broadway Stylists, Dairy Queen, Pizza Ranch and Northern Landscaping. She also received a photo courtesy of Silker Studio and a cookbook from St. Gabriel’s Hospital Hospice program.
