After falling to Albany in the Sub-Section 6AA East championship game, the Little Falls softball team battled its way back to the section finals with wins over Ottertail Central and Staples-Motley.
But in a rematch with the defending section champs, Little Falls couldn’t quite get past sixth-ranked Albany in Thursday’s Section 6AA championship game, falling 9-0.
Little Falls started the game strong as senior starting pitcher Chloe Nelson retired the side in order in the first and junior Jamie Jenks robbed Albany’s leadoff batter in the second inning of a potential home run.
But the Huskies kept the pressure on the Flyers, eventually breaking through and pulling away for the 9-0 win at Whitney Park in St. Cloud.
Little Falls put runners in scoring position in four of the seven innings, but couldn’t break through against Albany’s ace.
Jenks had a pair of hits to lead the Flyers at the plate, with seniors Kala Bzdok, Makayla Jorgensen, Alayna Kabanuk and Holly Kampa also picking up singles.
Little Falls finished the season with a record of 16-9 and won a share of the Granite Ridge Conference (GRC) championship with a 9-3 mark in the GRC.
Seniors on this year’s team included Conley, Jorgensen, Nelson, Bzdok, Kabanuk, Brummer, Kampa, Kelsey Thompson and Mandy Nelson.
