Royalton’s deep postseason run ran out of steam in Tuesday’s Section 5A consolation semifinals, as St. John’s Prep shut out the Royals 10-0 at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.

The Johnnies took advantage of a pair of errors to pick up runs in the first two innings, then busted the game open with an eight-run fourth.

Sophomore Cade Stang drilled a two-out single back up the middle to break up the Johnnies’ perfect game in the fourth, but had to stop at third after advancing on a passed ball and wild pitch.

Senior Jeremy Grittner doubled to deep left to lead off the fifth and junior Lucas Snyder singled for the Royals’ other two hits.

Royalton finished the season with a record of 11-14, winning the Sub-Section 5A East championship.

Seniors on this year’s team included Tyler Sieben, Steve Hoff, Brandon Lattimer and Grittner.
