Harding strikes for four runs in bottom of the ninth to rally past Buckman

After failing to score in its first eight at-bats, Harding struck for four runs its final time up to erase a 3-0 deficit and defeat Buckman 4-3 in Victory League (VL) baseball action, June 2.

Mitch Dorn, Brad Meyer and Gary Woitalla each drove in a run to tie the score, then Curt Caughey delivered the decisive RBI to lift the Dinosaurs to their second walk-off win in a row.

Caughey finished with a pair of hits for Harding, while Zach Pohlkamp went 2-for-4 for Buckman.

In other VL play June 2 – 3:

 

Randall 8, Royalton 2

Ricky Drew went 3-for-4 and smacked two doubles and Dusty Parker kept Royalton in check over five innings on the mound to guide Randall to an 8-2 victory.

Jason Peterschick and Noah Czech each added an RBI for Randall and Joe Tuholsky singled and scored.

Aaron Trutwin had two hits while Paul Krebs picked up a triple, RBI and run for the Riverdogs.

 

Pierz Brewers 13, Buckman 3

Mike Weber drilled three hits and Mike Poser held down Buckman for five innings as the Pierz Brewers handled Buckman 13-3.

Dylan Kummet and Eric Boser each added a pair of hits for Pierz, while Gary Boros and Pete Oldakowski both doubled for Buckman.

 

Fort Ripley 11, Cuy. Range 0

Logan Kalis fired a five-hit shutout as Fort Ripley overwhelmed Cuyuna Range 11-0.

Kalis struck out 11 batters and was supported offensively by Austin Schmolke and Nick Jelacie, who combined for five hits and four runs.

Reed Olander reached base three times for Cuyuna Range.

 

Freeport 13, Flensburg 0

Freeport 12, Flensburg 1

Freeport held Flensburg to three hits in two games as it swept a doubleheader 13-0 and 12-1.

Mike Frerichs tossed a one-hit shutout in the opener, with Eric Evaslage and Jason Tschida driving in three runs apiece.

Frerichs then doubled and collected three hits in the finale and Nate Winter tossed a two-hitter, striking out nine.

Nate Masog doubled and drove in a run for Flensburg.

 

Avon 13, Opole 7

Avon slugged 18 hits en route to a 13-7 triumph over Opole to move into second place in the South Division.

Rick Hendrickson and Reed Voit each went 4-for-5 with two RBIs for Avon and Neil Manthe picked up three hits and three runs.

Nick Bialka had three hits and homered for Opole.

 

Opole 7, Harding 0

Opole scored seven runs for the second consecutive game, but this time they stood up as Zach Bialka fired a six-hit shutout to lead the Bears over Harding 7-0.

David Bialka posted three hits and three RBIs, Keaton Gustin drove in a pair and Mark Huls singled twice with a run to provide the offense Opole needed.

Brad Meyer and Josh Boser collected two hits apiece for Harding.

 

St. Wendel 10, Pierz Bulldogs 0

Four players compiled multi-hit games and Brandon Hellmann tossed five shutout innings to guide St. Wendel to a 10-0 victory over the Pierz Bulldogs.

Ben Schwanberg homered and drove in three runs, Brent Van Heel doubled twice and Andrew Bernstetter and Lee Maciej each scored two runs for the Saints.

Andy Leidenfrost went 2-for-3 for Pierz.

 

Avon 8, Holdingford 0

Kyle Collins struck out 13 batters while allowing only two hits over seven shutout innings as Avon shut out Holdingford 8-0.

Reed Voit hit a double and a home run and Luke Manthe doubled and drove in two runs for Avon offensively.
