The Little Falls Legion baseball team opened up an early lead and held off host Upsala-Swanville to win its season opener 9-5, Thursday.
Little Falls erupted for five runs in the top of the second inning to seize early control, but Upsala-Swanville came right back with four runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the gap to one.
The score held at 5-4 until the fifth, when Little Falls created some breathing room with a three-run inning, then tacked on a final insurance run in the sixth.
Mitch Gregory went 3-for-5 with three runs and an RBI to lead Little Falls.
Joey Hanowski and Tony Arnold each went 2-for-4, with Hanowski drilling two doubles and driving in two and Arnold scoring two runs and knocking in one.
Luke Thoma worked four innings to record the win on the mound.
Eric Lampert went 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI to lead Upsala-Swanville.
Alec Griffith worked five innings for the Patriots, allowing three earned runs and striking out a pair.
The two teams square off in a rematch in Little Falls, Wednesday, at 6:30 p.m.
