Alvera E. Fortier, 94
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church in St. Cloud, for Alvera E. Fortier of Waite Park, formerly of Bemidji, who died June 8, 2012. The Reverend Matthew Crane will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Little Falls. Visitation will start at 11:30 a.m. with the Rosary being prayed by St. Martin de Porres mission group at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church in St. Cloud.
Alvera was born in Long Prairie, Feb. 10, 1918, to August and Helen (Bartz) Westphal. After graduation from Little Falls High School, Alvera attended business school in Minneapolis. She married C.A. “Bun” Fortier in 1937, lived in Little Falls until they moved to Bemidji where they resided for over 60 years She was known for her culinary expertise, frugality and strong German work ethic. She was a fantastic supporter of her husband’s sports career. Alvera enjoyed her faith, friends, crafts, flowers and gardening. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
Alvera is survived by her children, Ross (Ann) of Detroit Lakes, Sharon (William) Kreutter of Denver, Colo., Robert (Nancy) of Kansas City, Kans., Richard (Jane) of Sun City, Ariz., and Judi (Mike) Ziemann of St. Cloud; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; sister Alice Wolfe of Minneapolis; half-brothers, Dale and Fred Westphal; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband of 63 years; three brothers and two sisters.
Memorials are preferred to the Bun and Alvera Fortier Scholarship Fund at Bemidji High School, Bemidji MN 56601.
Thank you to Country Manor, St. Cloud Hospital Hospice and Sterling Park Healthcare Center for the wonderful care given to Alvera the past few months.
