A Funeral Service will be held Monday, June 25, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royalton, with the Rev. Greg Tomhave officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery in Royalton. Friends may gather from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Sunday, June 24, at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Royalton, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of service Monday at the church.
Mabel June Hovland was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Wadena, to the late John and Clara Marie (Olson) Hovland. She attended country school in Cushing. She completed her G.E.D. in 1953. As a young lady, Mabel worked for Campbell Soup Company in St. Paul. Mabel was united in marriage to Clifford R. Modrynski May 31, 1951, in Whichita Falls, Texas. The couple made their home in Royalton since 1969. Mabel worked for Munsingwear in Little Falls for several years. Mabel and Clifford also did foster care for 14 years. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and quilting. Mabel was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Royalton, where she was a member of the Ladies Aid.
Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband, Clifford of 61 years; children, Steve (Carrie) Modrynski of Royalton, Larry (Kelly) Modrynski of Gettysburg, Pa., David (Diane) Modrynski of Lakeville and Julie Modrynski of Little Falls; siblings, Don (Ginny) Fitch of Little Falls, John (Elaine) Hovland of Duluth, Ella Mae Krueger of Royalton, MaryAnn (Ted) Stodalka of Royalton and Carol (Fred) Oelrich of Eagan; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Clara Hovland; siblings, Norman Hovland, Andy Hovland, Richard Hovland and Raymond Hovland; and sister-in-law, Darlene Hovland.
