Veterans appreciate a ‘thank you’
To the Editor:
On May 27, at the Veterans Cemetery, a day set aside to honor veterans both the living and those who have passed on, a young lady came to me and said “Are You a Veteran?” — I said “I am.” She said “Where did you serve?” I answered, “On a B24 four engine bomber flying out of Shenya, out of the tail end of the Aleutian Islands.” She said “Thank you so much, and handed me a card that said, “Thank you so much” on the outside and said on the inside: “Veteran, thanks so much for your contribution to my freedom. Your service and sacrifice are very much appreciated.”
“You are a true hero and a real role model for future generations.
“You will never be forgotten.
“God bless, Naomie.”
I want to thank her for the printed words — they are appreciated especially when I think of friends who didn’t come home to their friends and family.
Naomie, thank you for your thoughts. I’ll carry your card in my billfold. — Gordon Gerling, Little Falls
