It took extra innings to solve each game of a doubleheader between the Little Falls Legion baseball team and Brainerd, Thursday, with each squad coming away with one win.
With host Brainerd ahead 2-0 after six innings in the opener, Little Falls came up with two runs in the top of the seventh to force extra innings.
Brainerd put together a single, walk and another single with two outs in the bottom of the eighth, though, bringing in a run for a walk-off 3-2 triumph.
Joe Tuholsky had two of Little Falls’ five hits in the game, with Gabe Ploof going the distance on the mound, fanning six.
Brainerd once again took a two-run lead into the final at-bat in the finale, but Little Falls rallied for a second time with two runs in the top of the seventh to force extra frames.
This time, Little Falls didn’t allow Brainerd an opportunity to win it in extra play, striking for six runs in the top of the eighth to earn a 9-3 win and a split.
Mitch Gregory went 3-for-4 with three runs and Tuholsky had two hits and two RBIs to lead Little Falls offensively.
Michael Holthaus and Tony Arnold added two hits apiece.
Tuholsky worked four innings of scoreless, no-hit relief to record the win, striking out three.
Little Falls hosts a doubleheader against Bemidji, Tuesday, at 4:30 p.m.
