Earl D. Nelson, 80
Earl D. Nelson, a resident of Little Falls, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. Funeral services were held July 6, at Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls, with the Rev. Hendrickson officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Military Rites were conducted by the VFW Post #1112.
Earl D. Nelson was born Jan, 19, 1932, in Buffalo Lake, to the late Earl and Ethel (Brethorst) Nelson. He attended Biscay Private School and Hutchinson Public Schools in McCloud County. Earl was drafted into the US Army in 1952 and served during the Korean Conflict. He was honorably discharged in September of 1954. Earl was united in marriage to Sylvia Oltmann, Jan. 31, 1953, in Glencoe. He loved the great outdoors, especially hunting, fishing, and snowmobiling. His family was the joy of his life and truly loved spending time with them. Earl was a lifetime member and past commander of the VFW and was also a member of the Military Order of the Cooties and was a past Seam Squirrel. He was also a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Little Falls.
Earl is survived by wife, Sylvia Nelson of Little Falls; children, Peggy (Daryl) Wetzstein of Crystal, Dean (Ann) Nelson of Fargo, N.D., and Brenda (Willard) Parks of Deer River; brothers, Norman (Marj) Nelson of Beaver Dam, Wis., Raymond (Marlene) Nelson of Litchfield, Myron (Mary) Nelson of Gaylord and Dale (Mary) Nelson of Gaylord; sisters-in-law, Rita Nelson of Finlayson and Dawn Nelson of Glencoe; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Earl was preceded in death by parents, Earl and Ethel Nelson; brothers, Kenneth and Gayle Nelson; and grandson, William Shears.
