Sauk Centre man charged with theft by check
Michael Ira Quistorff, 43, Sauk Centre, has been charged with issuing a dishonored check valued at more than $500 by Morrison County Attorney Brian Middendorf and his staff.
According to the criminal complaint, Quistorff went to the Motor Vehicle Department at the Morrison County Government Center April 10, and transferred motor vehicle titles. The total fee of $1,598 was covered by a check from the account of Quistorff Trucking Inc., held at Pine Country Bank.
The check was later returned because the account did not have sufficient funds. A notice and demand for payment was sent to Quistorff April 24, but he did not respond.
On May 22, a Morrison County sheriff’s deputy contacted Quistorff by phone. He allegedly admitted he wrote the check to the Motor Vehicle Department and that he did not have the funds in his checking account when he wrote the check.
While he allegedly said he would stop in and make good on the check by May 25, he has yet to do so.
If convicted, Quistorff faces a maximum penalty of five years imprisonment and/or a $10,000 fine.
