Francis ‘Franny’ Stangl, 64

Francis “Franny” Stangl, a resident of Buckman, passed away Friday, July 6, 2012, at his home surrounded by his family.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, July 10 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, with Father Al Stangl, Father Ken Popp, Father Gerald Dalseth and Father Ken Brenny con-celebrating. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Francis “Franny” Stangl was born Oct. 12, 1947, at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, to Jerome and Marie (Dickinson) Stangl. He attended St. Joseph’s Grade School in Pierz, from first grade through eighth grade. Franny graduated from Father Pierz Memorial High School in 1965. Franny worked for Meyer’s Dairy, Maurer’s Service Station, Tri-City Paving, Thielen Chevrolet and later at Camp Ripley as a technician for 30 years. After retirement, he also worked as a custodian for seven years at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman.  Franny enlisted in the Minnesota National Guard Feb. 3, 1966. He was united in marriage to Karen Brausen, April 24, 1971, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. The couple made their home south of Buckman, for the past 41 years. He served in the Minnesota National Guard for 37 years. Franny enjoyed woodworking, hobby farming and working the land, reading, watching the History Channel and Nature Channel, camping with his family and vacationing with his wife, Karen. Franny and his family enjoyed eating out together. He enjoyed his time spent with his eight grandchildren and one great-grandson. Franny was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Buckman, past member of the parish council, member of the Knights of Columbus for 46 years, Pierz American Legion Post #341 and was a member of the Bar Ringer Horseshoe League.

Franny is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Karen Stangl of Buckman; children, Jamey Stangl and significant other, Tammy of Sauk Rapids, Tanya (Tim) May of Watkins, Josh (Audra) Stangl St. Cloud and Patrick (fiancé, Kelly) Stangl of Pierz; mother, Marie Stangl of Pierz; siblings, Margie Marshik of Pierz, Lonnie (Roger) Hiemenz of Pierz, Alan (Marge) Stangl of Brainerd and  Karla (Chuck) Storekamp of Genola; grandchildren, Brittney Stangl, Sabrina Stangl, Noah Stangl, Gabriella Stangl, William Stangl, Isaac Stangl, Whitney Stangl, Owen Stangl and one on the way; and great-grandson, Payden Laudenbach-Stangl.

He was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Stangl in 2008.
