Jerry Hartman, Sr. passed away peacefully at home with family at Diamond Willow in Little Falls, Friday, July 6, 2012. He was recently preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Donna Marie. Interment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis, at a later date.
Jerry was born March 26, 1926 in Minneapolis, to Henry and Sara (Peltier) Hartman. He was united in marriage to Donna Marie Peterson, Sept. 15, 1945, in Denver, Colo. He enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1944 on his 18th birthday. Jerry was a devoted husband and father who dearly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was wonderfully funny and enjoyed talking, laughing and entertaining his family and friends on the piano. He was a talented musician having attended the University of Minnesota School of Music as a young man. Some of Jerry and Donna’s favorite songs were “Claire de Lune,” “Rhapsody in Blue,” “Chopin, Swing and Boogie Woogie.”
Jerry is survived by a son, Jerry Hartman Jr. of Cushing; daughters, Lynn (Doug) Kusske of Forest Lake, Tracy Barrett of East Bethel and Suzanne (Mark) Barrett of Elk River; grandchildren, Molly, Amy (John), Riley, Gina (Kevin), Ross and Megan; five great-grandchildren; brother, Thomas (Pat) Hawkins of Indianapolis, Ind.; sister, Nancy (Merit) Gangwer and many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sara Hartman; his dear and loving wife, Donna Marie; son-in-law, Derek Barrett; sisters, Thora Knight and Nancy Lou Gangwer and brother, James Hawkins.
He will be forever loved and missed by his family and friends. A celebration of Jerry’s life will be announced at a later date.
