Shelley JoAnn Strahl was born Dec. 27, 1949, in Little Falls, the first child of Dorothy Ann Olson Strahl and Carroll Raymond Strahl. Her father’s teaching profession took the family on many unique adventures, from a one room schoolhouse in Saw Bill Landing in the Superior National Forest to suburban Minneapolis. Shelley graduated from Little Falls High School with the class of 1967. Shelley began her college education in Northfield and St. Cloud. She then moved to Los Angeles, Calif., where she met and married Al Castillo. They later moved to Maryland with their children, Adam, Amy and Ben. Shelley pursued her undergraduate degree in psychology and journalism and later became a licensed CPA. She became a senior consultant for Thomson Reuters, an international consulting firm, and her career took her on assignment throughout the United States and Europe. Shelley was at the height of her profession and gained the respect and admiration of her colleagues. Most of all, Shelley was totally dedicated to her family, a beloved mother and grandmother known for her pearls of quiet wisdom, caring and concern that brought happiness and joy to all who knew her.
Shelley is survived by her children, Adam Castillo of Maryland, Amber Castillo of California and Ben Castillo of Maryland; their spouses; and four grandchildren, Kia Marie, LilyAnn, Kyle and Evan; her mother Dorothy Strahl of Minneapolis; her father, Carroll (Becky) Strahl of Randall; sister, Candis (Bill) Low of Texas; brother William Strahl of Florida; and her extended beloved family and friends.
A memorial service for family and friends was held Saturday, July 14, in Maryland, and a memorial service will be held Wednesday, July 18, at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church in Cushing, with internment in the Randall Cemetery.
