On Saturday, Aug. 11, at 10 a.m. the Scandia Valley Lions kick off The Club’s 18th annual golf tournament. Rain or shine, the event will be held at the Vintage Golf Course in Staples.
Registration for the two-person scramble’s four divisions begins at 8 a.m. There is no requirement to sign up in advance. The divisions include open, mix, seniors more than 70 years old and women’s teams.
The cost is $75 per person which includes dinner following the day of golf. A few of the top prizes include a car from Nyhus Chevrolet in Staples for a hole-in-one at hole 11, golf packages for four at Oak Hill, Eagle’s Landing, The Pines and The Vintage and a one-night stay at Grand Casino including the buffet for two people.
“Last year we had 102 golfers, in spite of the storms that came through the area,” said Lion Russ Holland. “We are expecting to top that this year.”
The Lions have gathered several corporate sponsors which include Baker Bariatrics, Twin Cities; Lake Country Landscaping, Cushing; United Pain Center, Twin Cities; the Castaway Club, Cushing; Angie Wright, Brenny Funeral Chapel and Newmann Insulation. There are also approximately 65 sponsors for the 18 holes.
“All proceeds are returned to the community,” said Holland. “The Scandia Valley Lions donate back to the Randall, Staples, Cushing, Little Falls and Pillager areas.”
