A Memorial Mass celebrating LyAnn’s life will be held at St. Joseph’s Church Sunday, Aug. 12, visitation will be held at 3 p.m. with a Catholic Mass at 4:30 p.m. A dinner will be served at the Brickyard in Pierz following the services.
LyAnn was born June 14, 1939, and was united in marriage to Virgil T. Girtz, June 6, 1960, St. Joseph’s Church in Pierz at noon. She resided at their Pierz farm from 1960 to 1973, a brief move to a farm near Royalton from 1973 to 1976, then to her beloved log house and farm near Little Falls from 1976 to 1998, completing her life in Brooklyn Park. LyAnn always wanted to complete her college degree and accomplished this in 1992, graduating magna cum laude, from St. Cloud State University, with a bachelor of arts in communication, at the age of 52. Family, cooking and more family where the highlights of her life, she loved to host family events and parties. She enjoyed her flower gardens and reading. Her grandchildren were a very important part of her life.
She is survived by her husband, Virgil T. Girtz of Brooklyn Park; her children, daughter Deb Girtz Holthaus (John) of Little Falls; daughter, Jean Ann Olson (Brian Anderson) of Little Falls; son, John Girtz (Jacki Schlink) of Maple Grove and Patrick Girtz (Kit Johnson) of Zimmerman; and her brother, Lewis Boser (Grace Kurtz) of Pierz.
She had 16 grandchildren, Victoria Holthaus, Rachael Holthaus, Michael Holthaus, Aaron Olson, Jordan Olson, Stephanie Olson, Austin Olson, Isaac Olson, Jordan Girtz, Chelsey Robinson, Jacob Girtz, Nicholas Girtz, Samuel Girtz, Lauren Girtz, Matt Girtz and Carly Girtz.
LyAnn was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Theresa (Schmidtbauer) Boser.
