Hilda Mary Swaser passed away Aug. 6, 2012. Hilda was born May 30, 1922, the ninth child of eleven children born to Peter and Mary (Stumpf) Langer of Genola. Hilda was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic Faith at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pierz. She attended Agram Township Country School in district 146, near her family’s homestead, up to the eighth grade, where she learned to speak English, as German was the only language spoken in her home. She lived on the family farm helping out with the work and milking the cows. On Oct. 24, 1940, Hilda married Frank Swaser of Harding, in her home town church. Hilda and Frank raised their family in West St. Paul. They celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary in 2011. Hilda worked at the W.T. Grant Variety Store in downtown St. Paul. She worked as a cook and was a fantastic cook for 20 years. After retiring from the store, Hilda worked for the St. Paul Schools in the Nutrition Program from 1982 to 1987. Hilda always made sure that Frank’s meals and lunch box were made to his likings. Frank never had to ask for his second cup of coffee. Hilda also enjoyed hosting dinner parties, where her guests were treated to a very scrumptious meal. Hilda never ate until her guests were fed. In July 2011, Hilda and Frank retired to the Southview Senior Living Center in West St. Paul. Hilda is survived by her son, Gerald “Jerry” (Lynnet) of Newfolden; daughter, Sandra Keffer of Somerset, Wis.; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and two brothers, Louie (Loretta) and George (Alice) Langer.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Frank; parents; four brothers, Frank, Carl, Albert and Herman; four sisters, Sister Marina, Laura, Margie and Julia; and one grandson, Brad Boettcher.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Aug. 9, at the Church of St. Joseph, in Butler. A private interment will be held later at the Resurrection Cemetery, Mendota Heights.
The family would like to thank and acknowledge Mary Ann and all the wonderful staff that works at Southview Senior Living. Hilda Swaser lived to be 90 years, 2 months and 7 days. May her memory be blessed.
