Joyce Mester included a moonshine sample with her family history display during The Gathering at the American Legion in Royalton, Aug. 5. She borrowed an alcohol tester from Punky Benusa, which showed that the sample was 80 proof. Many people who attended shared stories they recalled or were told by older family members about moonshining days in the area. Area residents were invited to display family photos and other memorabilia and to share stories.
Ann Brenny, bottom left, and Marlys Hesch Sebasky exchanged genealogy stories. Behind them is a trunk brought to the United States in 1881 by a Borash ancestor from Silesia.
