Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday, Aug. 16, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, Brennyville, with the Rev. Laurn Virnig officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Foley American Legion.
Adam Novak was born Feb. 15, 1927, in Alberta Township, Benton County, to Thomas and Rose (Mastey) Novak. He married Rita Brenny May 8, 1950, at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Brennyville. In May 2012, the couple celebrated 62 years of marriage together. His true love was farming. Adam farmed his entire life in Benton County. He was a block layer by trade in the St. Cloud area for over 50 years, at a starting wage of $1 an hour. He was a United States Marine veteran. Most important to Adam were his family and the special times he spent with his grandchildren. He was a member of the Gilman Knights of Columbus and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Brennyville.
Adam is survived by his wife, Rita, Foley; sons and daughters, Charlene (Bob) Sromek, Princeton; Noreen (Larry) Larsen, Andover; Rick (Carol), Andover; Ron (Carol), East Bethel; Marlene (Bill) Roessler, Oak Grove; Randy (Pam), Hillman; Glorene (Chad) Weisser, Gilman; and Rudy (Vonnie), Becker; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren; 10 stepgreat-grandchildren; brother, Alvin (Lorraine), Foley; sisters; Rosie Pulczinski, Bemidji; Eileen (Don) Bialke, Big Lake; and Betty (Mark Brenny) Motschke, Waite Park; sisters-in-law, Connie Novak, Foley; and Lorraine Novak, Foley.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Rex (Dec. 15, 1990); great-granddaughter, Anastajia Kearns; sister and brothers, Evalin, Norbert and LeRoy; and brothers-in-law, Cy Pulczinski and Reine Motschke.
