Raymond J. Piekarski, 96

Raymond J. Piekarski, a resident of Maplewood, formerly of Little Falls, passed away Monday, Aug. 13, 2012, at The Homestead of Maplewood Assisted Living.

Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Aug. 17, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls, with Father Jerry Nordick officiating. Burial was  in Our Lady of Lourdes Parish Cemetery in Little Falls.

Raymond was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Little Falls, to the late August and Mary (Deering) Piekarski. He grew up and attended country school in the Little Falls area. Raymond was united in marriage to Frieda Dickman Oct. 21, 1943, at St. Adalbert’s Catholic Church in Little Falls. After their marriage, Raymond and Frieda farmed in Pike Creek Township from 1947 until 1964. They moved to Minneapolis and, in 1982, returned to their farm in Pike Creek Township until 2007. The last several years Raymond resided at The Homestead of Maplewood Assisted Living in Maplewood. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Little Falls. Raymond enjoyed fishing, gardening and playing cribbage and poker.

Raymond is survived by children, Roger (Dianne) of Lakeville, Yvonne (Stanley) Valento of Vadnais Heights, and Carol (Klyde) Gritz of Burtrum; siblings, George Piekarski of Keewatin, Lawrence Piekarski of Brainerd, James (Shirley) Piekarski of St. Paul and Mary Ann Dvorak of St. Paul; nine grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Raymond was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Frieda Piekarski; parents, August and Mary Piekarski; brothers, Walter, Aloise, Sylvester and Benedict; sisters, Helen and Rosie; and infant sister.
