Girls Tennis: LPGE/USA squeaks past Little Falls 4-3

LPGE/USA 4, Little Falls 3

Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/Upsala-Swanville Area (LPGE/USA) slipped past Little Falls 4-3 in a tightly contested match during the LPGE/USA quad, Aug. 24.

Eighth grader Abby Ecker won the decisive match for the Thunder at No. 4 singles, 4-6, 6-2, 10-4.

Senior Jamie Jenks cruised to a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles for Little Falls, with sophomore Mikayla Gottwalt winning at No. 2 singles (6-2, 3-0, retired) and eighth graders Arielle Emerson and Angela Meschke winning 6-4, 7-6 (4) at No. 3 doubles.

Osakis 6, LPGE/USA 1

Benson 5, LPGE/USA 2

LPGE/USA also had an early test during its home quad with perennial Prairie Conference power and 10th ranked Osakis, falling 6-1.

Abbey Schultz and Laura Geisenhof netted the Thunder’s lone win at No. 1 doubles, 2-6, 7-5, 10-7.

LPGE/USA dropped a 5-2 match to close the day against Benson, but did win two of three doubles contests, including a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 doubles by sophomore Alyssa Kulla and freshman McKenzie Barth.

Osakis 7, Little Falls 0 

Little Falls won 4-3 over Benson and lost 7-0 to Osakis in its other matches during the quad.

Jenks and Meschke earned singles wins against Benson for the Flyers, with the doubles teams of sophomore Katelynn Kanieski and Gottwalt as well as senior Alyssa Athman and sophomore Lindsey Schneider also winning.

1. Laura Geisenhof/Tori Roe (LPGE/USA) 6-1, 6-1.

2. Jenna Abraham/Payton Long (LPGE/USA) 6-3, 6-3.

3. Arielle Emerson/Angela Meschke (Little Falls) 6-4, 7-6 (4).
