Richard. L. Sears, a resident of Brainerd, passed away Friday, Aug. 17, 2012, at Edgewood Vista in Brainerd. Richard was born May 31, 1932, in Brainerd to Edward and Sarah (Montgomery) Sears. Richard attended the Brainerd High School graduating in 1952. He served in the Army in the Korean Conflict as a telephone operator. He married Marilyn Smith in 1956. To this union three children were born; James Sears of Chesapeak, Va., Edward (Dadra) Sears of Arvada, Colo., Suzanne (Daniel) Crick of Menno, S.D. On Aug. 16, 1969, he married Vyolett Kumm. To this union two children were born, Mary (Ronald) Robertson of Olathe, Kan. and Frank Sears of Staples. Richard was baptized in 1970. Through the years besides teaching in Swanville and Spring Grove he held a number of part-time jobs teaching his children good work ethics and how to love the Lord in service. He enjoyed visiting people, taking his grandchildren fishing and leading Bible studies at the nursing homes.
He is survived by his wife and five children; one sister; Ruth (Bob) Milloch of Baxter; one brother Clarence (Litta) Sears of Pine River; many nieces and nephews; 11 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents; father Edward Sears and mother Sarah (Montgomery) Sears and his first wife Marilyn.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, Aug. 22, at the Church of the Nazarene on Highway 371 North in Brainerd with Pastor Ron Keysor officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
