Volleyball: Swanville rallies from two sets down to upend Isle

After dropping two close sets to open the match, the Swanville volleyball team rallied to take the final three against visiting Isle, Tuesday, winning its season opener 22-25, 25-27, 25-16, 26-24, 15-8.

Senior Marissa Evans and sophomores Danica Hanson and Stephanie Koetter led a balanced offensive attack with 10 kills apiece, followed by seniors Tiffany Barthel (9) and Brittany Poegel (5).

Barthel added a team-high 19 digs, Hanson contributed 12, sophomore Simone Grittner had 11 and junior Ashley Maciej picked up 10 and Koetter picked up three blocks.

 

Season preview

Swanville graduated eight players from last year’s team that finished with a .500 record and fourth in the Prairie Conference.

Returning starters include Evans, Barthel and Poegel with Hanson and Koetter expected to play significant roles.

Swanville plays at Verndale, Tuesday.
