The Little Falls girls swimming and diving team reached unprecedented heights a year ago.

The Flyers claimed the first-ever Granite Ridge Conference (GRC) championship, sent a relay team to state and had their first individual state champion, Whitney Weisz.

Five of the leaders on that team, Weisz, Sarah Andringa, Carena Daniels, Kenzie Hanson and Brenna Holmes, are gone, but a new crop of five seniors and 30 swimmers in seventh – ninth grade aim to help Little Falls rebuild quickly.

The group of seniors on this year’s team, Carly Atkinson, Jordyn Himley, Diana Kempenich, Ashley Klein and Emily Stark, all competed at last year’s section meet.

“It will be very difficult to repeat as conference champs this year, but the girls are committed to giving it their best shot,” Little Falls head coach Tim Corbett said. “It will be exciting to see how the younger swimmers develop and take on new varsity roles as the season progresses.”

Little Falls hosts Foley, Thursday.
