Cross Country: Holdingford boys, girls sweep Maple Lake meet

The Holdingford girls cross country team ran away with first at the Maple Lake meet, Aug. 31, while the Huskers boys topped Delano on a tiebreaker.
The Pierz girls earned sixth and boys took ninth, with Royalton running an incomplete boys team.
Sophomore Emily Wolter turned in a second-place overall performance to lead the Holdingford girls, covering the course in 16:17.
Freshman Alli Ruprecht (17:01) and eighth graders Jo Merten (17:10) and Angel Rick (17:18) also placed in the top six individually.
Sophomore Maggie Gruber (18:12) and senior Megan Hoheisel (18:29) placed in the top 15 to lead Pierz, followed by sophomores Arre Langer (18:56) and Dana Hennen (19:00), eighth grader Emma Hoheisel (21:15) and senior Beth Brochofsky (28:24).
Holdingford finished in a tie for first with Delano, topping the Tigers by having the better sixth runner.
Sophomores Abe Skwira (17:27) and Andrew Zachman (17:33) led the Huskers, trailed by senior Ryan Hartung (18:35), freshman Marcus Rick (18:40), junior Nick Hiltner (18:44) and sophomore Jacob Thell (19:00).
Sophomore Kyle Becker (18:50) placed 17th to lead Pierz and senior Will Corbett took 25th in 19:23.
Senior Elias Schomer (20:53), freshman Matt Janson (21:12), junior Mitchell Czech (23:49) and sophomore Daniel Tautges (23:50) rounded out the Pioneers’ lineup.
Sophomore Zach Carlson placed third individually in 17:12 to lead Royalton, with sophomore Tremayne Collins (18:21), senior Stephen Strusz (19:25) and freshman Ben Borash (19:31) also competing for the Royals.
