Clarence H. Brausen, a resident of Pierz, passed away Monday, Sept. 3, 2012, at his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Friday, September 7, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz, MN with Father Kenneth Popp officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Parish Cemetery in Pierz, MN. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. on Thursday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN and from 9:30 to 10:30 on Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. Parish Prayers will be prayed at 7 P.M. on Thursday at the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel. Arrangements are with the Shelley-Virnig Funeral Chapel in Pierz, MN.
Clarence was born November 23, 1916, in Buckman Township, to the late Peter and Elizabeth ‘Roos’ Brausen. He grew up in Buckman Township and attended country school. Clarence was employed at Gruber’s Market in Genola, from 1933-44. He was united in marriage to Veronica Hoheisel in July, 1938 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Onamia. Clarence entered the U.S. Navy in 1944 and served on the USS Concord, the ship that fired the last shot in WW II. He was honorably discharged in 1945 and returned to Minnesota. He worked on the ore boats on the Great Lakes for two years and then for Glueck Beer Company from 1952-63. Clarence then tended bar at Norb’s Bar in Genola; and Korf’s Bar, Borash Bar and the Pierz Legion, all in Pierz. His wife, Veronica passed away in 1975. Clarence married Bernice Bednar in 1983. She passed away in 2001. From 1992-2002, he worked as a custodian for the Pierz School District until retiring. Clarence enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, playing cards, watching his garden grow and visiting with family and friends. He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz and the Pierz American Legion Post #341.
Clarence Brausen is survived by his son, Marvin ‘Arlene’ Brausen of Little Falls; daughter, Darlene Jutz of Shoreview; step-daughters Laurie Rauch of Coon Rapids and Tiny Bernu of St. Cloud; brother, Reinhart Brausen of Little Falls; sisters, Lorraine ‘Earl’ Aaron of Little Falls, Florence Sahr of Grand Rapids, Leona Funk of Pierz and Mathilda Lampert of Pierz; seven grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and nine great- great-grandchildren.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents; both wives, Veronica and Bernice; brothers, Ervin, Leo, Ray, Joseph and Lawrence Brausen; sister, Laura Brausen; son-in- law, Edwin Jutz; stepdaughter, Jackie Preimesberger and three infant grandchildren.
Honorary casketbearers were Matt Luberts, Jack Sahr, Al Kelzenberg, Jerry Virnig, Kenny Brausen and Steven Brausen. Casketbearers were Joshua Giesssinger, Nicholas Brausen, Nathan Gosiak, Dustin Bartkowitz, Kodi Gosiak, Matthew Brausen, Justin Walrod and Christopher Preimesberger.
