Ahead two sets to one, Swanville battled back from a 9-1 deficit in the fourth set to avoid a decisive fifth set and win its Prairie Conference opener at Eagle Valley, Thursday.
Senior Marissa Evans paced the Bulldogs’ offense with 13 kills and 17 set assists, with senior Brittany Poegel and sophomores Danica Hanson and Stephanie Koetter adding eight kills apiece.
Senior Tiffany Barthel led the Swanville defense with 19 digs, followed by Poegel (15), junior Ashley Maciej (12) and sophomore Simone Grittner (11).
“We played strong our first two games and then let the officials take us out mentally the third game,” Swanville head coach Kerie Thoma said. “It was a very intense last game with many momentum swings. It is a good win to get under our belt early in the season.”
