Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Pierz. Burial took place in the parish cemetery.
Dorothy Cecelia (Fugere) Ficek was born Oct. 6, 1921, to Art and Olivia Fugere in Belfield, N.D. She went to a country school until eighth grade and then attended Catholic High School in Sheffield, N.D. Dorothy was united in marriage to Robert Ficek, May 10, 1943. Together they ranched in the Belfield, N.D. area until 1962 when they purchased a dairy farm west of Buckman. There they raised their seven children with strong faith, values, and work ethic. After retiring from farming in 1975, they moved to Pierz. Dorothy enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, doing embroidery and bird watching. Mom loved to play the piano and dance to the old time music. Some of her favorite memories were of fishing trips to Canada as well as other vacations she and Bob took with family and friends. Her family always played a very important role in her life. Dorothy held various jobs throughout her life and also volunteered for several years at St. Mary’s Villa. She was very involved in her faith at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Christian Mothers. Dorothy is survived by her husband Bob of 69 years; children Larry and Gayle Ficek of Pierz, Sandy and Jim Poser of Coon Rapids, Darrol and Judi Ficek of Fort Ripley, Tim Ficek of Rogers, Allan Ficek of Sobieski, Cheryl Stein and partner Jack of Robbinsdale and Jolene and Bob Loidolt of Pierz; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sisters Donna Schultz of Loveland, Colo. and Janice Kohler of Ham Lake; sister-in-law Janet Fugere of Dickinson, N.D. and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers: Wallace, Delton, and David; one sister, Yvonne and daughter-in-law Gail.
