St. Cloud Cathedral utilized four second-quarter touchdowns to erase an early deficit and top the visiting Little Falls football team 39-14 in Friday’s Granite Ridge Conference opener.

The Flyers jumped on the board early, finding the end zone on a 36-yard touchdown strike from senior Spencer Fenske to senior Collin Eckman to take a 7-0 lead, which they held at the end of the first quarter.

But the Crusaders rattled off five touchdowns in the next 14 minutes to take a commanding 33-6 lead it would not relinquish.

Fenske found Eckman on another touchdown pass from 17 yards out to slow Cathedral’s run, but the Crusaders scored a final touchdown in the fourth quarter to seal the win.

Fenske completed 14-of-24 passes for 180 yards on the night, with Eckman hauling in six passes for 95 yards and junior Trysten Ross making four receptions for 32 yards.

Junior Jalen Wuchko led the Flyers on the ground, compiling 55 yards on 16 attempts.

Ross led Little Falls defensively with eight tackles, followed by senior Jordan Petrone (7), sophomore Bryce Zawatzke (6) and juniors Tyler Gastecki (5) and Austin Olson (3).
