Cody Weiss, a senior at Pierz High School, recently threw a two-hitter in the San Jose Fall Classic while playing for the Minnesota Twins Training Academy 18AAA travel baseball team in California.
The team is managed by Erik Lovdahl and is made up of select 18 year olds from Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa.
Weiss’ team, the Big Red Machine, is coached by Augsburg College coach Jeremy Nelson. Weiss pitched seven innings of two-hit baseball against the Pensacola Aces in a 12-1 win, Sept. 1.
With several scouts on hand the next day, Weiss pitched the first four innings without allowing a hit while going 5-for-5 with a single, three doubles and a triple in an 18-2 rout over the Oakland Raider Elites.
Weiss’ record is a perfect 3-0 with tournaments in Utah, Arizona, Kansas, Illinois and Florida still remaining this fall.
The Big Red Machine has the highest total of runs scored and best run differential in its past two tournaments with a 6-2 record in tournament play.
