Cross Country: Holdingford boys, girls sweep third meet in a row

For the third meet in a row to open the season, the Holdingford boys and girls cross country teams each took first place at Thursday’s New London-Spicer Invite.

Sophomores Abe Skwira (17:24.06) and Andrew Zachman (17:25.07) finished back-to-back in third and fourth place, respectively, to lead the Holdingford boys.

Senior Ryan Hartung was the next finisher in 12th place in 18:17.0, followed by freshman Marcus Rick (18:32.07), junior Nick Hiltner (19:00.39) and sophomores Jacob Thell (19:05.46) and Zach Ryan (19:17.81).

Sophomore Emily Wolter breezed past the field to lead the Huskers girls, topping her nearest competitor by 20 seconds to finish first in 15:04.72.

Also scoring for Holdingford were freshman Alli Ruprecht (15:44.74), eighth graders Jo Merten (15:52.09) and Angel Rick (17:06.5) and junior Joelle Ertl (17:32.73).
