Rita Winzenburg, 80

Rita Winzenburg,  a long time Williston resident, died at Mercy Medical Center in Williston, Monday afternoon, Sept. 24, 2012.

A memorial service was held Thursday afternoon, Sept. 27, at the Everson Funeral Home Chapel in Williston, with Father Russell Kovash officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Rita was born Nov. 7, 1931, to August and Christine (Boser) Sontag in Pierz, where she attended Catholic school. On Nov. 27, 1951, she married George Winzenburg. They moved to Williston in 1956 for the first oil boom. She worked at Walt’s Market for many years and was a dietitian for 24 years at the Bethel Lutheran Home from 1974-98 when she retired. For three years she was a Senior Companion to the elderly and disabled from 1998 – 2000. For 10 years she was a Foster

Grandparent at Head Start Program in Williston, and until her death, was still acknowledged as “Grandma Rita” in the community. She was a longtime member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. Rita liked bowling, playing darts, reading, cooking and gardening. She chose to live her life simply and quietly, caring for others. God was gracious enough to bring her home peacefully.

Surviving Rita are her sons, Tom Winzenburg and wife, Jan, of Williston and Jim Winzenburg and wife, Debbie, of Fargo, N.D.; her daughter, Pat A. Erickson of Denver, Colo.; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; her sisters, Vi Schmidt of Madison, Wis., Clara Bieganek of Golden Valley and her treasured niece, Alberta Servaty of Pierz.

She was preceded in death by her father and mother; four brothers, Jack, Virgil, Steve and Reuben Sontag; and sister, Lorene Servaty.

In lieu of flowers, family would prefer memorials be given to Bethel Lutheran Nursing Home, St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Williston or Foster Grand Parent Head Start Program Dacotah Foundation, 600 S. Second St., Suite 8, Bismarck, N.D., 58504.
