Volleyball: Pine River-Backus edges Swanville in five-setter

Visiting Pine River-Backus held off Swanville 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 23-25, 15-12 in a tightly contested non-conference battle, Monday.

Senior Marissa Evans led the Bulldogs offensively with 16 kills and 18 assists, with senior Tiffany Barthel anchoring the defense with 15 digs.

Sophomore Danica Hanson was the next leading hitter for Swanville with seven kills, with junior Nikki Primus  contributing six and senior Brittany Poegel adding five.

Hanson also had 21 set assists, junior Ashley Maciej made 10 digs and freshman Amanda Evans chipped in four digs and two kills.
