Football: Upsala-Swanville Area defense overwhelms LPGE

The Upsala-Swanville Area (USA) football team employed a smothering defensive effort in its homecoming game to shut out Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE) 31-0, Friday.

The Patriots did the bulk of their damage on the ground, running for 339 yards, while senior Eric Frieler completed 6-of-12 passes for 57 yards.

Junior Mitch Lange reached 100 yards rushing for the fourth time in five tries, carrying the ball 16 times for 141 yards.

Senior Austin Mollner gained 87 yards and freshman Kyle Lange used a 60-yard burst to finish with 61 yards.

Senior Garrett Wolf caught three passes for 40 yards and senior Colten Kruzel had two receptions for 11 yards.

Defensively, Mitch Lange had 10 tackles and seniors Alec Griffith and Avery Smieja each made six.

Senior Austin Jorgensen recorded five tackles and two sacks, Kyle Lange recovered a fumble and Mollner intercepted a pass.
