Girls Soccer: LeBlanc scores twice as Little Falls handles Zimmerman
By PATRICK SLACK
Junior Rachelle LeBlanc tallied a pair of goals to lead the Little Falls girls soccer team to a 4-1 win over Zimmerman in its regular season home finale, Tuesday.
With the game scoreless in the 12th minute, LeBlanc broke away from the Zimmerman defense and slipped a shot past the goalkeeper to put Little Falls on the board.
The Flyers struck again 10 minutes later when eighth grader Chelsea Moran struck on a pass back from sophomore Marissa Virnig to make it 2-0.
Little Falls maintained the pressure, with LeBlanc taking a seam pass from sophomore Katelyn Staab in the 28th minute, pulling the ball back out before turning on goal and depositing a quick shot into the net to give the Flyers a 3-0 halftime edge.
Junior Katie Yorek converted a penalty kick less than two minutes into the second half before Zimmerman broke up the shutout bid in the 77th minute.
Sophomore Scottijo Meyer earned the win in net, stopping four shots.
“The girls fought for every 50-50 ball and took control of the game, dominating the time of possession,” Little Falls head coach Marc Fritz said. “Great team play and controlled passing.”
