On behalf of the Morrison County Local Water Plan, Morrison Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) will once again be conducting free nitrate testing of well water. A week-long clinic will be offered Monday – Friday, Oct. 15 – 19. Testing hours will be from 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Friday.
Landowners may bring in as many samples as they want, and will be asked to fill out short questionnaires on well construction, location, depth, etc. Samples should be in clean jars or Ziploc bags. Only two – three ounces is needed.
In the past number of years, approximately 15 – 17 percent of wells tested in Morrison County exceeded the acceptable standard. More problems are seen in certain areas and shallow sand point wells are typically one of the factors in high test results.
This service is free and the SWCD encourages all landowners with wells to mark their calendars and take advantage of this free clinic. For more information, call (320) 616-2479.
The SWCD office is located north of Little Falls at 16776 Heron Road, in the USDA County Office Building, east of County Road 76.
