An Onamia man was arrested Saturday, Oct. 13, after being chased by law enforcement officers from two counties and the State Patrol.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was alerted that morning at about 9:34 a.m. by Crow Wing County Saturday, that a Crow Wing County deputy was attempting to locate a GMC Yukon and driver that was apparently involved in a fleeing incident the previous night.
A Morrison County deputy located the suspect vehicle and driver at approximately 9:45 a.m. east of Pierz on County Road 39. The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle and a pursuit ensued. The suspect vehicle collided with another occupied vehicle in the city of Pierz then drove through several yards in Pierz. The suspect vehicle eventually became disabled west of Lastrup and the suspect then fled on foot into a swamp.
A Morrison County Sheriff’s canine and handler responded to the scene, along with other officers and a state patrol helicopter. A search was coordinated and the suspect was apprehended by the canine at approximately 10:55 a.m.
Lonnie Joseph Bellcourt, 46, of Onamia was taken into custody. Bellcourt is currently in the Morrison County Jail pending numerous charges, including fleeing a peace officer in a vehicle.
There were no reported injuries of the person(s) in the vehicle that was struck in Pierz.
The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office, Baxter Police, Pierz Police, Pierz Fire Department and the Minnesota State Patrol.
