Football: Lange, USA sprint past Wadena-Deer Creek 48-6

Upsala-Swanville Area quarterback Eric Frieler (5) jukes a Wadena-Deer Creek defender out of his way en route to a first down run during Friday’s game.

Junior Mitch Lange pounded the Wadena-Deer Creek (WDC) defense for 159 yards and three touchdowns on 33 carries to power host Upsala-Swanville Area (USA) to a 48-6 win, Friday.

Lange also put on a dominant defensive performance, tallying 12 tackles, an interception and a fumble recovery.

Senior Eric Frieler helped balance the Patriots’ offense through the air, completing 8-of-13 passes for 136 yards and a pair of touchdowns.

Senior Garrett Wolf was Frieler’s top target, hauling in three passes for 84 yards and a score and senior Tren Dinius had three receptions for 54 yards and a touchdown.

Upsala-Swanville Area senior Alec Griffith jars the ball loose with a big hit into the arms of junior teammate Mitch Lange for an interception against Wadena-Deer Creek, Friday.

Senior Alec Griffith added eight tackles defensively and senior Avery Smieja forced a safety.

USA travels to Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg, Wednesday, for its regular season finale.
