Volleyball: Upsala holds off Swanville to remain undefeated in Prairie Conference

The Swanville volleyball team took a set from Upsala for the first time in more than five years, Thursday, but the Cardinals regrouped to earn a 25-19, 25-20, 25-27, 25-17 road win and remain undefeated in the Prairie Conference.

Senior Aimee Pelzer blasted 20 kills to go with 25 digs, 13 set assists and eight blocks to lead Upsala.

Senior Tracy Herzog followed with 10 kills and nine blocks, senior Makenna Peterson added eight blocks and seven kills and sophomore Danica Cheney distributed 25 set assists.

Senior Marissa Evans recorded 17 kills and five blocks and senior Tiffany Barthel had a team-high 22 digs and four service aces for Swanville.

Freshman Haileigh Sales picked up 25 set assists, junior Nikki Primus had six kills and sophomore Stephanie Koetter added four kills and five blocks.

“The team played its best match all season tonight and played as a team from start to finish,” Swanville head coach Kerie Thoma said. “I’m very proud of my girls. It was a great way to go out on our last home game of the season, especially for our seniors.”
